About

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) is a pioneering private company developing commercial fusion energy solutions. Spun out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2018, CFS is advancing a technology based on magnetic confinement, using high-temperature superconducting magnets to control plasma and facilitate the fusion process. The company is constructing SPARC, a fusion demonstration device aiming for net-positive fusion energy, and is planning to build its first commercial-scale power plant, ARC, in Virginia.

CFS’s innovations aim to provide clean, abundant, and carbon-free baseload energy for the future.
